Here I am living the dream. I work taking photos of the life under the sea. I’ve been visiting some of the islands off the coast of Belize, some reefs off Honduras, and visiting Scuba schools around Central and South America and selling my work online. There is nothing I would rather be doing right now at this time of my life.
At present I find myself in a very exclusive resort hotel on CR’s pacific coast, feeling the same rush of excitement as I did last month when I pulled up into the Ritz-Carlton in South Beach. This place is called Sol Papagayo Resort. It’s spectacular. The flower arrangements in the lobby alone were enough to inspire the artist in me to break out the camara.
My room is spacious and incredibly comfortable. There is a breeze coming in off the ocean calling me to immerse myself in its depths. Today would be a perfect day for a dive, but I have other plans. The folks here at reception helped me book a tour through the rain forest canopy in a local reserve. I have never been through the canopy before and I heard recently that it boasts huge biodiversity.
I plan on doing some water sports while on this trip. Reception told me that I have endless opportunities at my disposal. I spoke briefly with a guy that went windsurfing yesterday only a day after having taken beginners lessons. The breeze here is soft and constant and I am ready to venture onto the oceans surface and experience speed.
Kayaking is also available here. There are some estuaries that might just need some exploring. I am told that there are great photographs to be taken in the early morning hours when the egrets and other coastal birds are at their most active. Im told I have to time my kayak trek with the tides such that I will enter the estuary while the tide is rising, and head out while the tide goes out.
Recuperating now from a day’s journey. One of many great adventures. But now I can think of no better place to just chill for a day than this tropical refuge. I will eat at the hotel’s restaurant in a bit, and then cruise to the pool for a drink with what appear to be some pretty friendly folks.
I want to acknowledge the great work the staff here are doing at Sol Papagayo . I feel very safe and well cared for here. I also want to thank to visionaries behind all this. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be able to be so relaxed on this trip. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica.
